Effects of Global Warming on Africa

The www.StopKillingUs.com campaign is concerned with the effects of global warming - in other words, climate change. But where it differs from similar environmental campaigns, of which there are many, is that it tackles the problem from the perspective of Africa.  This is something that many people will find hard to reconcile.

Certainly Africa continues to receive aid on a huge scale to help with natural disasters resulting from an already challenging climate and the continent is associated in many people's minds with environmental problems. However, climate change has never been one of them.  After all, isn't climate change a problem that only affects the developed world?

Our campaign urges you to think again.  Maybe other continents are responsible for the majority of global warming that is now changing the world’s climate. However, this planet is home to each and every one of us, and it is well known that due to a lack of financial resources, Africa will probably suffer more than any other continent from the consequences of global warming.  What affects the global environment affects us all and it is up to all of us to work together to find a solution.

For Africans it is easy to ignore this problem because of other, more pressing, issues.  Due to their perceived lack of influence it is likely that Africans will continue their isolation from global issues and their lack of resources may discourage them from making a meaningful contribution to the solution of global warming.

Our campaign goal is to reverse that trend and to encourage and empower Africans to make real contributions to solving this global crisis.

Reforestation, choosing renewable energy technologies, increasing education on environmental issues and encouraging public participation are some of the things that African countries can do to become part of the global challenge of  reversing climate change by mitigating the effects of global warming.
